Going to Hell

Poormonger A lovely album from start to finish. So good I bought it twice ( first digitally , then on CD ) . Immediately before writing this little blurb I also got the t-shirt. Standout song writing and a beautifully resonant voice. Favorite track: 80 Days of Rain.
Clara Rose
Clara Rose thumbnail
Clara Rose A quintessential "I'm not alone, but I'm lonely" record. The circular nature of the verses of the opening track really sets the tone for the whole thing. It makes me feel sad. But the good kind of sad, because it's the sad that only comes from understanding how you're actually doing. Bittersweet never sounded so good. Favorite track: Whiskey.
Enofa

Enofa Beautiful, hugely catchy indie songs that remind you to be proud to be queer. An easy contender for album of the year. Favorite track: Whiskey.

Whiskey 03:48
Is it whiskey, is it beer, is it all the things I fear? Is it knowing when you’ve had enough, is knowing when you’re not gonna fall in love? Is it all the drinks you bought, is it maybe worse than you first thought? Is it the scream, is it the shout, is it wondering who’ll be next to bail you out? Is it too much working, is it not enough, is it wondering when someone will call your bluff? Is it sleeping in a bed or sleeping on the floor? Is it wondering if you can do any of this anymore? Is it meeting someone who’s not into bands, is it weird that they still understand? Is it feeling stupid, is it feeling small, is it all in your head, there’s nothing there at all? Is it watching videos of you and your friends, is it the third message in a row you’ve sent? Is it saying goodbye to who you were back then, is it the feeling of not having to pretend?

Didn’t know I was the one and only. Feels like someone here disowned me. Did you fall asleep just to show me that I could be, I could be this lonely? I’ll tell you one thing that I want before I’m thirty; I wanna be in love with something that won’t hurt me. Are you gonna tell me to count to ten? Am I never gonna see you again? Is this just another string of bad luck? Is this just another week where we don’t fuck? This is where I think I’m going insane. I can’t do this again. I can’t do this again. And when all your favorite animals die and there are no birds left in the sky, I’ll think back to crying in the morning. I’ll think back to you giving me warning. Now there’s no point saying sorry when there are no fish left in the sea. Are you gonna tell me to count to ten? Am I never gonna see you again?

about

Get Better Records 2021

credits

released January 22, 2021

This record was recorded, mixed and mastered by Ben David in his studio house in the Adelaide Hills in Australia in February 2020.

All instruments were played by me except for percussion which was by Ben. He also sang on the songs December and Candle. In the Darkness was originally written for a Dreadnought Southwest project called Rebellious Sounds, and was sung by a community choir in Cornwall, composed by Claire Ingleheart.

Big massive thanks to Ben David, Iona Cairns, Gaby De Sena, Lucy Suddaby-Smith, Tom Cross, Eli Cook, Morgan Hekt-Woodrow, Rollo Hekt-Partridge, Exeter Cavern & Dreadnought SW.
